Leftover Crack

As is normal with hardcore nights, 3 bands played before the headline act Leftover Crack. I have to say I really enjoyed this gig. This was shot from the side of the stage as I'd have no hope of getting anything in further with all the moshing!

The White Liars

A slightly different look from a gig this time: the 24mm Tilt Shift. The White Liars @ Roisin Dubh.

In the sea

After doing a little 70's style shoot with Keith McDonald recently, I suggested a short trip to the beach. Keith wasn't afraid to get his feet wet (literally), and I had to resort to shooting in my boxers to get this killer photograph.

For the technically interested, this is side lit by the sun with a bare 540ez at ful power, on a stand held above me, triggered by skyports.

Alela Diane

Alela Diane is a wonderfully quiet and tender folk singer. Hot Press have an article about her this week displaying her with marvelous locks. As this shot shows, she's pretty recently shorn and certainly not looking worse for it. This shot is from her support slot with Bon Iver at the Galway Arts Festival Big Top.

Fred

Fred were playing in the Roisin Dubh tonight. Popped in to catch the end of the set, after the soundcheck ran late in The Quays. Here's a shot of Joe I particularly liked when I saw it on camera. It's unbelievably sharp, with a fantastic level of detail. I haven't had time to look through the rest of the shots yet.

Fionn Regan

Here's an oldie of Fionn Regan. Fionn is probably best known for 'Be good or be gone'. At this gig he was also a lover of almost no light, hence the extreme ISO and B&W finish!

Pierce Turner

Wexford/New York based musician Pierce Turner played to an intimate, but interested crowd last Tuesday in the Roisin Dubh. Pierce has had songs featured on 'The Wire', as well as performed by Christy Moore.

Saul Williams

Slam poet and rapper extraordinaire Saul Williams on his first sold out Roisin Dubh gig. This was nothing short of spine tingling as his words shot through everyone there, baring both heart and soul.

RSAG

Jeremy from RSAG is a low light lover. Part of a set for online music mag Red Track Music. He plays drums and sings to a backing DVD of himself on other instruments. It's a cool show.

Oldest of the old.. digitally anyway

Here's the very old live gig photo I can find in my Library. I do have some older ones on film, but I can't locate them currently.. I even have some old sidestage shots of Junkster/Beastie Boys etc, from the Big Day Out, way back, but this is the oldest I have on the computer. The poor gentleman on the receiving end of my lens is Glenn Tilbrook, formerly, and semicurrently with Squeeze.

It's certainly no masterpiece, but I remember being so impressed with myself, shooting manually and being able to capture a low light gig with no flash. And oh yes, is there a lot of flash in some of the other (ropey) shots from this set! This may bring a sense of nostalgia to the old Roisin Dubh heads, it's from June 2003!

In Case Of Fire

Hey, continuing in the vein of cataloging.. here's one I couldn't find of Kerrang's Best British Newcomers: In Case Of Fire. Rocking band. Loved the gig, but ironically, it wasn't busy..

The Jam: Bruce Foxton

I'm currently going through archives, trying to amalgamate all my band related photos into one catalog. I thought that I'd been successful, but as I go through my general catalog, I'm finding all kinds of stuff I'd forgotten, or missed. Case in point is this. Here's a shot of Bruce Foxton with his 'The Jam' from Roisin Dubh in June 2007.

Conway Savage

The Bad Seed Conway Savage played an interesting mix of melancholy and mischief tonight in the Roisin Dubh. As always, the light in there was just about acceptable - the LED parcans just give off the bizarre colours when mixed with the normal tungsten parcan. The LED's are very blue, while the tungsten is very yellow. Not a good mix for a photograph! Anyhow, the easiest way to resolve such issues is B&W and that's what I've done!

MusoFoto

I'm kicking off the Muso Foto blog. The main site has my main live and promo portfolios, but I will be adding an subtracting to them as time goes by. Of course the blog will be mainstay of fresh photos.
Galway does have a burgeoning music scene along with a lot of festivals. Of course there are a number of venues also. The main venue for original bands is the Roisin Dubh. It's nice venue, but the LED lights are not great for shooting with. Still we make the most of it!
