The Sunseekers

Local band The Sunseekers did an album launch a while back. Came across these shots yesterday, so I thought I'd post them.

The XX

The XX in Roisin Dubh 16th December. B&W because otherwise it would be a horrible pink colour.

Strike Anywhere

Tonight was Strike Anywhere (and 4 other bands!) at the Roisin Dubh. I was actually doing sound for all 5 bands, but took time to sneak in a few shots. Thomas moves like lightning so I was glad to get one shot that wasn't of him all motion blur!

I can't believe I haven't posted in a month. I've shot loads of bands in that time. Better get on with posting some of them!

La Galaxie

I dragged a few Camera Club members along to the Roisin Dubh to Shoot La Galaxie. The light was primarily from the back, so I went and asked for a little front light. That way the camera had a half a chance of focusing. Here's some of my shots from the evening.

Messiah J & The Expert

A cracking night with Messiah J & The Expert at Roisin Dubh tonight. Nice crowd, well into the gig and the lads having a ball despite the initial lack of Kinder eggs.

The Ralphs

It's been superbly busy recently with all my blogs getting neglected. Anyhow here's a quicky of Jamie Ralph from The Ralphs.

Funeral Suits

A mildly hoodied and Emo-esque Funeral suits played the Roisin Dubh tonight. Excellent gig actually, with great support from The Lost Chord and Jon Dots.

Leftover Crack

As is normal with hardcore nights, 3 bands played before the headline act Leftover Crack. I have to say I really enjoyed this gig. This was shot from the side of the stage as I'd have no hope of getting anything in further with all the moshing!

The White Liars

A slightly different look from a gig this time: the 24mm Tilt Shift. The White Liars @ Roisin Dubh.

Fred

Fred were playing in the Roisin Dubh tonight. Popped in to catch the end of the set, after the soundcheck ran late in The Quays. Here's a shot of Joe I particularly liked when I saw it on camera. It's unbelievably sharp, with a fantastic level of detail. I haven't had time to look through the rest of the shots yet.

Fionn Regan

Here's an oldie of Fionn Regan. Fionn is probably best known for 'Be good or be gone'. At this gig he was also a lover of almost no light, hence the extreme ISO and B&W finish!

Pierce Turner

Wexford/New York based musician Pierce Turner played to an intimate, but interested crowd last Tuesday in the Roisin Dubh. Pierce has had songs featured on 'The Wire', as well as performed by Christy Moore.

Saul Williams

Slam poet and rapper extraordinaire Saul Williams on his first sold out Roisin Dubh gig. This was nothing short of spine tingling as his words shot through everyone there, baring both heart and soul.

RSAG

Jeremy from RSAG is a low light lover. Part of a set for online music mag Red Track Music. He plays drums and sings to a backing DVD of himself on other instruments. It's a cool show.

Oldest of the old.. digitally anyway

Here's the very old live gig photo I can find in my Library. I do have some older ones on film, but I can't locate them currently.. I even have some old sidestage shots of Junkster/Beastie Boys etc, from the Big Day Out, way back, but this is the oldest I have on the computer. The poor gentleman on the receiving end of my lens is Glenn Tilbrook, formerly, and semicurrently with Squeeze.

It's certainly no masterpiece, but I remember being so impressed with myself, shooting manually and being able to capture a low light gig with no flash. And oh yes, is there a lot of flash in some of the other (ropey) shots from this set! This may bring a sense of nostalgia to the old Roisin Dubh heads, it's from June 2003!
